Meet the Logwardians — Elena

We thought you might like to get to know the team behind Logward. So we decided to share more about the people making it all happen. Today we’ll start off with Elena Gerdes, our Head of Marketing.

Elena Gerdes

I know you Elena, but tell the world about yourself.

Hey, I’m Elena, 26 years old, and I grew up in a small village named Wesuwe near Meppen and moved to Wildeshausen when I was ten years old. After A-Levels, I studied Global Management in Bremen. This degree combined business administration, economics, and intercultural competence with focus on developing countries. In this setting I studied one year in Chile, which was a blast. After graduation I worked for Paul Hewitt, a watch and accessories producer, as a content manager and team leader. In 2019 I joined Logward and also started founding my own business.

What do you do at Logward?

At Logward I am responsible for “Marketing” which includes branding, corporate identity, corporate design, web presence, etc. What that means any given day though, depends on the day!

What do you like most about Logward?

First of all, I like the start-up mentality. That means working freely and being able to choose when to be productive. Results are always more important than time durations. Every day it is up to us how we structure our day. Moreover, I appreciate the international nature of our company. At Logward we have so many different characters with varied backgrounds and cultures. This is challenging on the one hand, and exciting on the other hand.

Describe yourself in three adjectives.

Open-minded, humorous, and ambitious.

What do you find motivating/ inspiring?

Even though it might sound cheesy, success stories really motivate me. Especially when told by people I can identify with. Inspiring, for me, goes in another direction. I find inspiration in the nature and in cities. Going through the environment with open eyes provides new ideas and impulses. Music is also a huge source of inspiration for me.

How do you keep yourself organized?

I am pretty simple in this regard. I trust in routines, to-do lists, and writing down thoughts.

What does teamwork mean to you?

Teamwork for me means having one aim and getting to it together. It is also to end up with a better outcome compared to if I were doing it alone, due to more input, more knowledge and more experiences. But teamwork is also about structure, consideration, critique, etc.

What is your favorite thing to do in your free time?

What I like most is surrounding myself with family and friends and spending time together. I also love listening to music and podcasts, doing sports, and reading.

What’s your biggest dream?

My biggest dream is to be self-employed leading a company. In this context I want to provide my employees a working environment in which they feel 100% comfortable. They should enjoy what they are doing and hopefully they develop a new meaning of “work” where it doesn’t feel like “working.” (Editor's note: Elena has now gone on to fulfill her dream working for her own company full-time after helping Logward establish its brand. Follow her journey and new venture.)

What did you want to become as a child?

A famous sports moderator.

If you could transport goods for one famous person, who would it be and what would you transport?

During the current crisis, I’d probably send some kind of face masks to a powerful politician so they can distribute it amongst the people.

If you could be guest on one podcast, which podcast would it be and why?

I guess I’d want to be guest in the famous German Podcast “Gemischtes Hack” just to have the funniest few minutes of my life.
